Mizpah Spring Hut
Mizpah Spring Hut is an Appalachian Mountain Club backcountry hut in the White Mountains, positioned between Mount Pierce and Mount Jackson and accessed off the Crawford Path. It’s a staffed, high-mountain stop for hikers moving before or after the southern Presidential Range, with an elevation around 3,800 ft and a hike-in approach via the Crawford Path and connecting trail(s).
Overnight guests use unheated bunkrooms; the hut has a total overnight capacity of 60 people, sleeping in rooms that can accommodate groups of 4 to 10. During the full-service season, meals include breakfast and dinner served by hut staff; during self-service, overnight guests prepare their own meals and clean up afterward. You’ll bring an appropriately rated sleeping bag and pillow for your bunk, plus a headlamp and warm layers for an unlit, off-the-grid setting with no electricity/overhead lighting and limited cell reception.
Mizpah Spring Hut runs seasonally (full-service June 4 — October 17, 2026; self-service May 8 — May 31, 2026) and is closed during the fall, winter, and much of the spring. It’s not usable as an emergency shelter during the winter. Reservations are strongly recommended, and the hut follows carry-in/carry-out for all trash and recyclables with quiet hours from 9:30pm to 6:30am.
