Maison forestière de l'Estanyol

Maison forestière de l'Estanyol is a large, unstaffed backcountry hut in the French Pyrenees managed by ONF, used by hikers as a stop on the GR10. It sits at about 1,480 m and is a good “shelter base” for overnight stays in the Conflent massif beneath the Canigou area.

Inside, it’s set up as one main room with sleeping platforms plus a fireplace, along with a small attached lean-to. The hut is described with sleeping capacity for about 10 people, with an outside area that includes picnic tables and a fountain; camping is possible around the hut. Water is available nearby, but it can be unreliable at times, so treat/filter before drinking.

There’s no on-site staff or booking process; use is effectively first-come, first-served. Plan on carrying everything you need for an overnight in an unstaffed shelter and stick to Leave No Trace habits around the hut.
