Alpine hut

Marmotte is a backcountry hut on La Traversée de Charlevoix, run for the long-distance crossing. It sleeps up to 12 people and is set up specifically for long-distance hikers rather than general stopovers.

Use is typically tied to doing the complete crossing or the half-crossing. If you want to reserve Marmotte without hiking the long trail, you must call to book within 48 hours of your intended date (subject to availability). The hut provides 12 mattresses, a slow-combustion stove, firewood, and a 4-burner propane stove, plus composting dry toilets and cooking/dining kit; there’s no running water at the shelter, so you must treat water from nearby sources. Carbon monoxide detection is provided; bring a 9V battery and two AA batteries. For independent/“autonomous” groups, you also bring your dish towels, dish sponge, toilet paper, matches/fire-starter, and a sleeping bag.
