Norris Hut
Norris Hut is a small, rustic backcountry hut on the slopes around kunanyi / Mount Wellington in Tasmania. It was built by Mountain River families, Thurston and Norris, in December 1991, with a cliff used as one wall. Use is geared to day visits—overnight stays are discouraged.
The hut includes a double bunk and one additional bed, with a pot-belly stove inside. There’s no running water, so plan on bringing all drinking water you’ll need. The hut is positioned off the Montagu Fire Trail in a hidden location, and it’s reached by walking from the Montagu Thumbs / Old Montagu Fire Trail area, including a short walk down from the saddle between Mt Montagu and the Thumbs.
