North Ohau Hut

North Ohau Hut is a basic four-bunk backcountry hut operated by the Department of Conservation in Tararua Forest Park (Wellington/Kapiti). It’s for trampers who plan their own route: there is no DOC track access to the hut, so you’ll need navigation skills and your own wayfinding (map, compass, GPS).

Use is free and bookings aren’t required—it's first come, first served. The hut is equipped with mattresses, has a fireplace, and provides toilet facilities (pit latrine). Water is untreated, so treat it before drinking.
