Oronui Hut

Oronui Hut is a standard six-bunk backcountry hut in Raukumara Conservation Park (East Coast region), run by the Department of Conservation. It’s in an area with no DOC track access, so you’ll need to plan and navigate your own route using map, compass, and GPS.

Use is straightforward: no standard bookings are required and stays are first come, first served, but you still need a DOC hut ticket (an honesty-box system) for each night. There’s a $10 per night adult rate (18+), $5 per night for youth (5–17), and free for children/infants (0–4); fees are listed through 30 June 2026 with updated rates from 1 July 2026. The hut has untreated drinking water, a fireplace, mattresses, and toilets with pit-latrine disposal.
