Route Details

Pinetree Cabin is a roofed backcountry cabin in Algonquin Provincial Park’s Leaf Lake Ski Cabins area. Ontario Parks routes it as a direct ski option from the Leaf Lake Parking Lot (about 8 km each way) using junction A/B/E and then continuing straight toward the cabin.

The cabin is set up for winter backcountry use with a wood stove (CSA-approved wood stove), table with chairs, and a sleeping setup of 2 bunkbeds (single beds, mattresses not included). It includes an outdoor privy and a picnic table; the Leaf Lake Ski Trail System is for skiing only (no snowshoeing/walking, and dogs are not permitted on the trails).

Winter rules and booking logistics are tight: use of the cabin is exclusive from 6:00 pm to 8:00 am the following morning, and outside fires are not permitted. Domestic animals (pets) are not permitted on site, and smoking/vaping is prohibited in all facilities; cook stoves are not permitted inside (you can cook on the wood stove).

To reserve, book through the Ontario Parks reservation service or by phone. Reservations are available 7 nights a week for a maximum stay of 1 night at a time, and the access point for bookings is listed as East Gate (Leaf Lake Cabins). What to bring includes sleeping bags, an air mattress, a cooking stove, pots/pans/utensils, lantern/flashlight, matches, and food and drinking water; also note you must follow the directional arrows on the ski trails.
