Refuge Cap Gribane
Refuge Cap Gribane is an Alpine-style wilderness backcountry hut on the Sentier des Caps de Charlevoix (Charlevoix), for overnight stays as part of the hut-and-camping system. It’s set up with a wood stove plus wood for the shelter experience.
Use is through reservation with the Sentier des Caps booking system. The hut is set for 10 people, and the reservation requires a 50% credit-card deposit; additional cancellation deadlines and penalties apply if you change plans.
Inside the refuge setup are a wood stove, firewood, an ax, and paper, plus a big cauldron and picnic table. Each refuge has a dry toilet nearby, and there is a water point near all refuges except Refuge La Grande-Vue; for Refuge Cap Gribane you should still plan to treat water you collect on site.
Plan your packing around refuge sleeping: a floor mattress, sleeping bag, backpack, trail map, walking boots, stove and fuel, matches or a lighter, utensils/crockery, candle, toilet paper, clothing changes, mosquito repellent, and a flashlight or headlamp with spare battery. Bring a small repair kit, rope/string/twine, first-aid supplies, a water filter or treatment tablets, enough food for the stay, a garbage bag for all waste, and a 9-volt battery for the smoke detector (for these shelters).
Rules are strict on fire use: it is prohibited to make outdoor fires at the refuge or campsite, and extra charges may apply if wood is used without following the rules. Also, dogs are not allowed for long-distance hut stays (including refuge/camping) on this system; leashed dogs are only allowed on day hikes.
