Refuge d'Art Vieil Esclangon

Refuge d'Art Vieil Esclangon is a small backcountry shelter in the Digne-les-Bains area, part of Andy Goldsworthy’s Refuge d’Art installation network. It sleeps 5 people and sits at about 1,060 m elevation, with a fireplace but no stove. Fireplaces are therefore your main heat option if you’re staying overnight.

Overnight use requires reserving the key through Musée Gassendi in Digne-les-Bains. Reserve the access key by phone (+33 4 92 31 45 29) or in person, after paying the museum entrance fee; that admission also covers entry to “River of Earth.” Use is all year long, and the key is available by reservation. Bring your own sleeping setup; capacity is limited to 5.
