Refuge de la Gittaz
Refuge de la Gittaz is a backcountry alpine refuge in the Beaufortain massif, set up for multi-day hiking stays and positioned near major walking routes. It operates seasonally from 12 June to 20 September 2026, open every day during that period, and use is by reservation with the wardens.
Sleeping capacity is listed at 31, and the refuge runs on scheduled service: night stay, breakfast, packed lunch, and half-board options. Bedding is not fully provided—duvets and pillows are supplied, but you need to bring your own sleeping sheet/liner and pillowcase. For booking, the reservation is confirmed using a phone call to the wardens, with a deposit (“arrhes”) of 20 € per person per night due at reception; payment is by cheque or cash, and card payments are not taken. The refuge is also on hiking itineraries such as GR5 and GRP Tour du Beaufortain, and suggested two-day itinerary connections include cols and passes like Col de la Cicle, Col de la Gitte, Passage des Cristaux, Passage du curé, and Col du Bonhomme.
