Refuge de l'Étang d'Izourt

Refuge de l'Étang d'Izourt is an unguarded backcountry shelter (accustomed to be open year-round) attached to the cabane du berger. It’s a small shed-style refuge set at about 1650 m, designed for self-sufficient use rather than staffed services.

Inside, it has a large sleeping area for up to 8 people, with wooden tables and benches. Bring your own sleeping gear and plan on bivouac-style responsibility—there’s no fireplace, no stove, and the refuge doesn’t provide cooking heat on-site. Expect to sleep on the bat-flanc platform rather than on mattresses or bedding provided by staff.
