Refuge des Évettes

Refuge des Évettes is a backcountry alpine refuge operated by Club Alpin Français in the Haute-Maurienne area, at 2594 m. It has 64 beds total, with winter accommodation for 16 places and a “hors gardiennage” section for 16 places, including a wood stove and a wood supply for cooking; there is no gas and no cooking gas or stove is provided.

During the main guarded periods, the refuge serves a semi-dinner that includes tea and coffee at breakfast. For ski touring season, there is no running water at the refuge; you can buy 1.5 L bottled mineral water (bring filled bottles before you climb). During other times, when the water system is thawed, you can fill bottles on site. Midday meals during ski-touring season require a phone reservation; sending SMS is not possible. A wood stove is available for “hors gardiennage” cooking, and the refuge uses water from the nearby lake (water is pumped and then UV-filtered), so you should limit water use. Picnic is allowed in all seasons on the terrace or inside, and the refuge expects visitors to take their waste back down the valley. A fee is paid to the refuge by putting it in the collection trunk (cheque payable to club alpin de Lyon or cash in envelopes).
