Refuge des Géants
Refuge des Géants is an backcountry hut on Mont-Édouard for overnight stays accessible by hiking or backcountry skiing (no car access). It accommodates up to 6 people and is described as an outfitted rustic refuge with sleeping arrangements including two double beds plus a single above (bring your own sleeping bags/“literie non fournie”).
Inside, you’ll find a propane cookstove/oven with pans and pots, dishes for 6, a potable-water sink/lavabo (about 20 L), a wood or gas stove, and an outdoor toilet. Lighting support is provided via a solar panel. There is also a fireplace inside the refuge for small fires among friends; however, outdoor fires are strictly prohibited.
Bookings are handled online through the Mont-Édouard reservation system. After purchasing, you must be able to show proof of your reservation on request. Access to the hut location is from 15:00, and you must clear the space by 11:00 on departure.
For planning, the hut is positioned in a remote, lightly traveled backcountry area; use the provided Mont-Édouard trails such as the sentier Pierre-Lavoie ouest or the sentier du Sacré-coeur from the station area. The operator notes that the rest of the high route beyond Refuge des Géants is wild and little used, and that hikers should consult the weather bulletin and be prepared for a self-sufficient remote outing. Dogs are not allowed in the refuges (allowed on trails if leashed).
