Refuge des Mottets

Refuge des Mottets (莫泰山屋) is a Tour du Mont Blanc backcountry hut in France’s Vallée des Glaciers, at about 1,864 m, on the GR TMB route near the Aiguille des Glaciers and the Col de la Seigne. The refuge runs as a seasonal mountain-chalet stay (open June 10 to September 20 for the 2026 season) with dormitory and private rooms for hikers on the TMB.

Sleeping is arranged in a mix of dormitory options (including 4-bed and larger collective dorm space) and rooms for 2, and it provides hot shower access and free drinking water. Half-board is the standard meal plan; dinner is served at 19:00 and breakfast at 07:00. Payment is cash only (no credit cards), and there’s no WiFi; the refuge produces its own electricity and there is no mobile phone coverage in the Vallée des Glaciers.

Access is on foot, between Refuge du Bonhomme and Refuge Elisabetta, about a 2-hour walk from the Col de la Seigne. By car, it’s roughly 25 km from Bourg Saint Maurice via Cormet de Roselend and Chapieux, then a further 20 minutes on foot from the drive point (the road is closed in winter). Bookings are handled online through the Autour du Mont-Blanc booking system; credit cards are not accepted, and if dates show fully booked you can contact the refuge directly to try to arrange a stay.
