Refuge des Platières

Refuge des Platières is a municipal, unstaffed backcountry shelter (cabane non gardée) at 1,853 m on the commune of Presle in the Belledonne massif. It’s an 8-person refuge with wood heating (poêle/wood stove and a fireplace/cheminée) and a cooking area; the interior includes a large square table and benches, with mattresses and coverings provided.

Expect seasonal water: drinking water is only available seasonally, and there is a nearby fountain, but water there is not guaranteed. Plan on free, non-reserved overnight use (no formal reservation system); there’s no toilets or shower. Access is typically by hike from La Rochette via Presle and the Mollard (or via Prodin). During late spring–summer to early autumn, it follows the usual open-season for this cabane, with one period open mid-June to mid-September and then week-ends into October.
