Refuge du Carro
Refuge du Carro is a backcountry hut of the Club Alpin Français at 2,764 m in the Haute-Maurienne (Parc National de la Vanoise). It has 61 sleeping places; in winter, when the hut is not under wardens, the winter room provides 18 places.
During the guarded season, the refuge keeps a guardian on duty for spring and summer—ideal for ski de randonnée in spring and for summer itineraries in the area. When it’s not guarded, the refuge still has an open “winter refuge” section intended for shelter; during these periods, a reservation is recommended and no warden is on site—so plan for self-sufficiency and bring avalanche rescue gear once snow starts (DVA, shovel, probe). Nearby objectives and day tours include the col du Carro, col des Pariotes, and routes toward the Levanna glaciers and peaks (including Levanna occidentale), with access also possible from Bonneval-sur-Arc.
