Refuge du col de L’Estrade
Refuge du col de L’Estrade is an unstaffed backcountry shelter in the French Pyrenees, usable as a self-reliant overnight stop when you’re traveling through the Col de l’Herbe Soulette area. It sits at about 1,420 m and is built for a small group of hikers. Use is free and it operates on a strict first-come, first-served basis with no booking system.
Inside, there’s a large fireplace, plus a table and benches for eating. Sleeping capacity is small—around 6 people—with bedding limited (mattresses/upper sleeping places are limited), so plan your loadout accordingly. It does not have a wood-burning stove, and there are no latrines. Water is not available close by, so carry what you need to reach the hut and cover cooking/cleanup.
