Refuge du Fond des Fours
Refuge du Fond des Fours is a backcountry mountain refuge in the Vanoise National Park area (elevation 2,537 m). It’s part of the refuge network around Val d’Isère and serves both hikers and groups planning an overnight in the mountains.
Use is managed on-site with periods of “gardiennage” (staffed operation) and “hors-gardiennage” (self-service). For summer 2026, it was listed as staffed from Saturday 13 June to Sunday 13 September 2026, with reservations handled online; for last-minute bookings within 48 hours, contact the refuge by phone. The refuge states that services vary by period and includes items such as a dining/restoration setup, bivouac and “coin hors sac” areas, coverings, and a wood stove.
The refuge is run as a staffed location and also operates in free-access mode outside staffing periods—bring what you need to manage your stay when the refuge is not staffed.
