Refuge du Rulhe

Refuge du Rulhe is a backcountry alpine hut in Ariège, on the municipality of Aston (Perles et Castelet, 09110). It sits at 2,185 m and offers 53 sleeping places in a main dormitory setup (rooms include a 10-person dorm, plus smaller dorms), with bedding and blankets provided; there are 12 rooms in total.

The refuge is run on a seasonal schedule: it is open from the end of May to the end of September, and winter use is available by reservation. Repas and small food service are provided for walkers, and it’s recommended to reserve in advance to secure a spot and check weather conditions before setting out.

The hut is positioned at the intersection of major long-distance routes such as GR10 and GR Transfrontalier, and also connects with the Tour des montagnes d’Ax and the Haute route pyrénéenne. From the hut area, common approaches and objectives include Lac de l’Estagnol (about 15 minutes away), the étangs of Fontargente and Joclar, the Port de Fontargente (for crossing toward Andorra), and the Pic de Rulhe. Activities in the wider area include randonnée, climbing, alpinism, fishing, and also winter approaches such as ski de randonnée and raquettes.
