Refuge le Baché
Refuge le Baché is a free, unmanaged mountain shelter in the Lauzière Massif (Savoie, France), used as a first-come, no-booking refuge. It’s maintained by the Commune of Sainte-Hélène-sur-Isère and is managed as a cabane non gardée (unguided shelter).
Sleep capacity is for 7 people (6 on mattresses; the remaining place is on the floor). Inside you’ll find a wood stove/heat source, wood, and a table, plus an easily accessible water point nearby (within about 100 m), but there is no running water in the cabin itself.
Access is by a hike of roughly 2–3 hours from Sainte-Hélène-sur-Isère with about 600 m of elevation gain; it’s also reachable by vehicle up to the general area (expect winter limits on road access). Expect modest mobile signal (around 1 bar indoors, 2 bars outside).
