Refuge les Thymelets
Refuge les Thymelets is a backcountry alpine hut in the Hautes-Alpes area, used as a simple refuge for overnighting while hiking in the Mont Chabrières region. It operates as a staffed refuge during the summer months and serves meals as part of the staffed operation.
For planning: it’s staffed mid-June to mid-September, and the hut is equipped with basic dormitory sleeping. Expect running water but no shower facilities, and no electrical power—bring a headtorch for evenings. Meal service is tied to the guardian’s schedule, with dinner requiring an arrival by 18:00 to secure food; when staffed, meals are provided at dinner and breakfast.
Plan booking by contacting the caretaker directly rather than relying on a centralized reservation site; also expect demand to be high in July and August, with better odds in September and early October. If you’re trying to reach the hut, a common approach starts from Eygliers on the GR94, taking about 2.5 hours with roughly 950 m of climbing through larch forest and alpine meadow.
