Alpine hut

Refuge L'Orignal is an Alpine-style backcountry hut in the Philosore corridor of Vallée Bras-du-Nord, used for both through-hikers making the Traversée du Philosore and some day users. It’s set near a beaver dam and is reached without any car access nearby; you start from Stationnement Mauvaise and carry your belongings on foot from there.

The hut is available in the Traversée du Philosore package only (3 days, 2 nights) and is registered at Accueil St-Raymond (107 Grande Ligne). Sleeping capacity is 8 people with 4 bunk beds. Booking is handled as part of the package; guests must also complete check-in at Accueil St-Raymond to obtain access rights before heading out.

Refuge L'Orignal has wood heating (wood included), mattresses (single-size foam, 12), and a wood stove with a propane cooking setup (propane stove). There’s a water source nearby but it’s not potable; bring a method to treat drinking water. The hut has no electricity and no propane gas provided. Campfire is prohibited and the hut is non-smoking.

Plan for a self-sufficient stay: bring a sleeping bag or bedding and pillows, a light source, spare batteries, extra clothing, a first-aid/hygiene/medication kit if needed, matches/firelighters (or an axe), enough food for your whole stay, toilet paper, and garbage bags to pack out all waste. In winter, expect cold risk and bring appropriate snowshoeing gear (mountain snowshoes with crampons) plus extra warm layers and at least 1–2 L of potable water per person per day.

Dogs are allowed at Refuge L'Orignal, but they must be managed per Vallée Bras-du-Nord’s leash and behaviour rules during both hiking and at the accommodation. Trail access is not included in the accommodation price; daily access must be purchased online and verified at arrival with a QR code.
