Stan's Hut

Stan's Hut is a four-bunk backcountry hut in the Whataroa area on the Price Range. It’s set up for public use and is overseen by the Department of Conservation, but owned and managed by the NZ Chapter of the Safari Club (SCI). The hut sits on the ground (not piled) at an elevation around 1,056 m, and it has a wood-frame, tin-clad “shed-type” layout that was restored with a new roof/trusses and later upgraded with solar power.

Facilities at Stan's Hut include bunks, lighting powered by a solar panel and battery, USB charging, and a toilet. Water is drawn from a small creek about 20 m from the hut. There’s no fee for membership-required access flags; non-SCI visitors are charged $5 per night, payable to Safari Club NZ, with a listed contact phone number for bookings. A fireplace isn’t provided.
