Summit Trail Shelter
Summit Trail Shelter is a primitive backcountry shelter managed by the Bureau of Land Management in the White Mountains National Recreation Area (Alaska). It’s intended for non-motorized hikers and other summer users, but it can also be reached in winter by snowshoe or cross-country skiing. The shelter has no running water, no electricity, and no cell coverage, and there’s no woodstove; it’s insulated for sheltering from inclement weather.
Use of the shelter is free. Campfire is allowed. Directions from Fairbanks route via the Steese Highway to Fox, then the Elliot Highway to the Wickersham Dome Trailhead; take the Summit Trail about 8 miles to reach the shelter.
