Syme Hut
Syme Hut is a backcountry overnight hut run by the Department of Conservation in Te Papa-Kura-o-Taranaki (Taranaki region). It sits high on the slopes of Taranaki Maunga in the Dawson Falls area and is used as a base for advanced, expert-level trips into this section of the park system.
Access is by standard bookings at the hut’s ticket/entry system: standard hut tickets are not required, and stays are first-come, first-served with honesty-box payment via a hut ticket for each night. The hut has 10 bunks; it provides cold running water from a rainwater tank, an outside toilet with pit latrine disposal, and no heating or fireplace. Drinking water is not treated, so plan to treat or filter water before use.
