Washpool Hut

Washpool Hut is a six-bunk backcountry hut in Aorangi Forest Park (Wairarapa), run by the Department of Conservation. It’s the nearest hut to the Putangirua Pinnacles, making it a practical base when you’re working through the area by foot.

The hut is first come, first served; no bookings are required, but you need a Standard Hut Ticket (or a Backcountry Hut Pass) for each night’s stay. Use includes a wood burner for heating; there are mattresses and a fireplace. Fees apply (adult $10 per night, youth $5 per night, child/infant free up to 30 June 2026). Facilities include a pit latrine; drinking water is not provided.
