Windy Gap Cabin
Windy Gap Cabin is a remote, primitive BLM backcountry cabin in the White Mountains National Recreation Area. It’s winter-oriented lodging, with no running water, no electricity, and no cell coverage; it can accommodate up to four people comfortably. Use is fee-based and requires reservations.
Inside, it’s set up for self-sufficient stays with bunk beds and basic furniture plus a propane cook stove and lantern, a wood stove, and an outhouse. Campfires are allowed. The cabin is primarily served by winter travel (snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing), and the summer approach can be very difficult on foot due to boggy terrain; ATVs are not available in summer (May 1–October 14).
