Adams Flat Hut

Adams Flat Hut is a small historic miner-hut replica on the Fenian Goldfield walks and tracks in Kahurangi National Park, near Karamea on New Zealand’s West Coast. The original hut dates back to 1882, and a replica was built in 1999; the site is now in a ruined state but still provides rough shelter for trampers. The hut sits in an open grass and rush clearing in regenerated native forest, with John Adam’s Grave nearby.

Use is free and the hut is kept as rough backcountry shelter. Beds are tarpaulin-slung bunks, and the hut has an open fireplace plus a small set of cooking/eating items associated with the hut structure. On-site water is limited to a small rivulet nearby (about 20 m from the hut) and there is a long-drop toilet.
