Almer Hut
Almer Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Westland Tai Poutini National Park on the West Coast, set above Franz Josef Glacier (Kā Roimata o Hine Hukatere). It’s a well-known hut in the Southern Alps area, geared to walkers making multi-day glacier/valley routes.
The hut has 12 bunk places and is offered on a first-come, first-served basis (no serviced alpine bookings required). Water is untreated; there’s a pit latrine toilet, no fireplace, and the hut is equipped with mattresses.
