Boo Boo Hut
Boo Boo Hut is a basic four-bunk backcountry hut in the Kokatahi River–Whitcombe River area on the West Coast, managed by the Department of Conservation. It’s set up for first-come, first-served use (bookings aren’t required), with an on-site pit latrine and a fireplace.
The hut is also on a route that is no longer maintained by DOC, with only sporadic maintenance by Permolat. River crossings between Boo Boo and Crawford Junction Huts include a section where the bridge has been removed; there’s no alternative crossing, and travelers must cross the Kokatahi River on the true left—only if you can find safe entry/exit points and the water isn’t flooded.
