Apiti Hut
Apiti Hut is a backcountry hut managed by the Department of Conservation. It’s set up for self-sufficient tramping, with a fireplace, a mattress for sleeping, and pit latrines for toilets. Water at the hut is untreated.
Because no reservation is required, plan for first-come use of the hut when you arrive. If you’re entering remote areas, bring a full shelter and emergency gear suitable for self-reliant travel—especially since remote Te Urewera hut removals can include changes at specific sites, including the removal of toilets or retained water facilities at decommissioned hut locations.
