Hanamahihi Hut
Hanamahihi Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut used for tramping-style overnight stays. The hut has a fireplace, and basic sleeping gear is provided in the form of mattresses; water is untreated, so plan to treat any water you collect and bring what you need to be self-sufficient.
For hygiene and waste, there are toilets with pit latrine disposal. Use is set up for independent hut travel (no reservation required). If you’re heading into the broader Te Urewera area, check current visitor alerts before you go, since DOC has been removing some Te Urewera backcountry huts and changing what facilities remain at decommissioned sites.
