Casino Hut

Casino Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut used for tramping in remote areas. The hut has a fireplace and mattresses, with drinking water described as untreated and toilets provided as a pit latrine/outhouse-style disposal.

Plan on being self-sufficient: carry a good shelter such as a tent, a warm sleeping bag, and clothing for remote conditions, and consider carrying a distress beacon where mobile reception is unreliable. If you’re heading into Te Urewera backcountry, check for Te Urewera visitor alerts and follow the current guidance from Te Uru Taumatua & Ngāi Tūhoe before you set out.
