Arethusa Lodge

Arethusa Lodge is a Forest & Bird lodge in Northland, set by a 14-hectare wetland reserve near Pukenui. It’s a small backcountry-style base for birdwatching, with Grey duck, mallard, and spotless crake listed among the birdlife on the reserve.

The lodge sleeps six people: two single beds in one room, four bunk beds in the other, plus a day bed in the lounge. Inside you’ll find a fully equipped kitchen with running water and gas hobs; water is supplied by rain-fed tank water. A separate bathroom sits outside with a flushing toilet and a shower. There’s no internet access and cellphone reception is limited.

Pricing is $30 per night for adults and $15 per night for children. Bookings are made by completing the lodge booking form and sending it to the lodge contact; confirmation comes when payment is received.
