Ballarat Hut - Flood Burn

Ballarat Hut - Flood Burn is a DOC backcountry hut in the Skippers area of the Otago region. It’s a basic three-bunk hut in the Queenstown/Wakatipu area, and use is free—no bookings are required; it’s first come, first served. Because it has no DOC track access, you’ll need to plan your route and navigate yourself (map/compass/GPS).

The hut has three sleeping bunks and includes a mattress. There are pit latrines on site, and there’s no fireplace or drinkable-water supply provided. River crossings can be risky: if you’re crossing unbridged rivers or side streams, avoid crossing when water levels are high or you can’t identify safe entry and exit points; turn back or wait for the river to drop.
