Alpine hutBull Flat Hut is a basic backcountry hut in Hāwea Conservation Park, managed by the Department of Conservation. It’s a two-bunk hut used for multi-day tramping trips in the Wanaka/Makarora area and sits in the Hunter River valley catchment.
Sleeping is limited to 2 bunk spaces, and the hut is equipped with mattresses. Heating is provided via an open fire; water is available from a nearby stream, and there is a non-flush toilet.
There’s no DOC track access to the hut, so plan your approach and navigate yourself. Use first-come, first-served use (no booking required). Fees are free, and you’ll need self-navigation skills using a compass, GPS, and NZTopo50 maps.
