Bush Hut

Bush Hut is a Department of Conservation standard six-bunk backcountry hut in Hāwea Conservation Park (Wanaka/Makarora area). Use is first come, first served, with 6 bunks available and no standard bookings required.

The hut has drinking water that’s untreated, plus a fireplace, mattresses, and toilets with a pit latrine disposal system. To stay overnight, you need a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut (or use a Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period). Adult (18+) nights are $10 until 30 June 2026; youth (5–17) are $5; children/infants (0–4) are free.
