Cameron Hut

Cameron Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in the Makarora area within Mount Aspiring National Park, set up as a standard four-bunk hut. It’s first come, first served—no bookings are required—so plan to turn up early if you expect company at peak times.

The hut has four bunks, plus a fireplace, with mattresses provided and toilets on site (pit latrine disposal). For an overnight stay, you’ll need a Standard Hut Ticket in the honesty box for each night, unless you already hold a Backcountry Hut Pass that covers most Standard/Serviced huts; fees listed run from $10 per night for adults (18+) and $5 for youth (5–17), with child/infants (0–4) free. The typical approach time from the nearest road end on SH 6 (Haast Highway) via Cameron Valley Track is about 4–5 hours (one way), with one-way track time commonly 5–6 hours and rated Advanced.
