Cameron Hut
Cameron Hut is a Department of Conservation basic nine-bunk backcountry hut in Hakatere Conservation Park, Canterbury, in the Cameron/Rangitata–Rakaia Rivers area. It’s in the Cameron Valley, accessed via a marked route that is about 6 hours (15.6 km) up the valley from the start point; the hut sits among moraines from the Cameron Glacier.
Sleeping is provided by mattress-equipped bunks, and the hut has toilets with pit-latrine disposal. Use is first come, first served—no bookings are required. Drinking water is untreated. The hut is subject to a low level of avalanche risk, especially in years with heavy snowfall when snow remains on the ground around the hut during major storms or for about 24 hours afterwards.
