Cookies Hut

Cookies Hut is a backcountry hut in Hakatere Conservation Park, run by the Department of Conservation. It’s a basic six-bunk hut where use is free and no bookings are required—plan on first come, first served sleeping. Fireplaces and mattresses are available, and there are toilets with pit latrine disposal.

Access is by route planning and navigation rather than a maintained DOC track. The hut is about 4 hours 30 minutes from a small car park on Double Hill Run Road; keep to the marked easement to reach Redcliffe Stream Scenic Reserve and Hakatere Conservation Park via private property. Bring what you need for self-sufficiency (the hut is not set up for drinking water).
