Carney's Bivvy No. 1
Carney’s Bivvy No. 1 is a basic two-bunk backcountry hut run by the Department of Conservation, set in the Rangitata and Rakaia Rivers area within Te Kahui Kaupeka Conservation Park (Canterbury). It’s built for self-reliant use: bookings are not required and it’s first come, first served.
The hut has two bunk beds, and use is free. It’s a “no track access” hut, so plan your route and navigate yourself with map, compass, and GPS; also be prepared for unbridged river crossings in the area. No fireplace is provided, and there are toilet facilities (pit latrine) at the hut.
