Halfway Hut
Halfway Hut is a backcountry refuge used on the Dusky Track through Fiordland National Park. It’s a small timber hut built for overnight stops during a hut-to-hut walk, with communal bunk beds, a wood-fired cooking stove, tank water, and a composting toilet.
The hut supports up to 12 people. It follows a first-come, first-served approach with no advance bunk reservations, so late arrivals may need to sleep on the floor if the sleeping platforms are full. DOC hut fees are paid using either a Backcountry Hut Ticket or individual backcountry hut tickets; the Backcountry Hut Ticket pass is for most huts and can be purchased in advance, while non-bookable huts use an honesty-box ticket process on arrival.
