Cascade Hut is a small, historic NZ Alpine Club backcountry hut in the West Matukituki Valley (Mt Aspiring National Park), tucked in by the forest edge in the Matukituki River West Branch area. Built in 1932, it’s a locked hut with two rooms—each with four bunks—and open fireplaces. A long-drop toilet is nearby, and rainwater is collected in a water tank.

Access is along river flats on foot from the Raspberry Hut road end. The hut is private and can’t be used for commercial activities or groups; bookings are made online, and once paid you get a door code for your stay. Members pay a lower nightly rate than non-members. If you use the fireplace, bring firewood used specifically by the hut system and replace any you burn so there’s dry wood left for others.
