Cattle Creek Hut

Cattle Creek Hut is a standard eight-bunk backcountry hut in Ruahine Forest Park, run by the Department of Conservation. It’s first come, first served (no standard bookings required); before your stay you must buy a Standard Hut Ticket and place it in the honesty box at the hut, or use a Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts over a 12-month period.

The hut sits at about 730 m altitude on a flat clearing and the area is prone to strong winds and high rainfall. Facilities include a fireplace, mattresses, and toilets with pit latrine disposal; drinking water is untreated, so plan to treat it before use. Access is from Tamaki West Road via Stanfield Hut, with an approach time of about 2 hours (advanced).
