Copland Shelter
Copland Shelter is a basic four-bunk hut in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park, operated by the Department of Conservation. Use is free and there are no bookings—plan on first-come, first-served occupancy at the hut.
The hut has mattresses and pit latrines. Water is untreated, so treat it before drinking. There’s no fireplace provided. Avoid attempting to cross Copland Pass unless you have high-level mountaineering experience and the right equipment; climbers have died attempting the crossing, and the eastern side of the divide is difficult due to erosion.
