Crosbies Hut

Crosbies Hut is a serviced 10-bunk backcountry hut in Coromandel Forest Park (Coromandel region), run by the Department of Conservation. It was built in 2010 and sits on the Memorial Loop Track off the Main Range Track, about 12 km north-east of Thames. The hut must be booked online in advance, and it’s not suitable for visitors arriving without a booking if no availability is shown.

Inside Crosbies Hut, there are mattresses and a fireplace, and there’s drinking water described as untreated. Toilets use a pit latrine. Make sure you’re self-sufficient with food, cooking equipment, and lighting, and plan for water availability being rain-dependent—take enough water for your stay during dry periods. Dogs aren’t allowed inside; use the kennels by Crosbies Hut Backcountry Campsite.
