Waikawau Bay Lodge

Waikawau Bay Lodge is a Department of Conservation backcountry lodge on the Northern Coromandel coast near Waikawau Bay, about 13 km north east of Colville. It’s a pack-in pack-out place, with mattresses provided but you need your own bedding, pillows, and towels.

The lodge sleeps up to 12 people in 3 bunk rooms (A: 1 set of bunks plus 2 single beds; B: 1 set of bunks plus 2 single beds; C: 2 sets of bunks). Facilities include a full kitchen with electric cooking, a microwave, a fridge/freezer, and a BBQ, plus hot showers and flush toilets; wood fire support is provided between 30 May and 1 October. Access to the beach is directly across Waikawau Beach Road.

Use of the lodge is currently tied to DOC’s renovation closure: it’s closed for renovations until further notice and bookings are not available. Rules shared with Waikawau Bay Campsite apply, including strictly no dogs or domestic animals on the premise or property, no camping permitted on site, and no fish cleaning inside or immediately adjacent to the lodge (a fish cleaning bench is provided in the carpark area).
