Dracophyllum Hut

Dracophyllum Hut is a basic two-bunk backcountry hut in Tararua Forest Park, part of the Tararua Range Main Range hut network. It’s managed by the Department of Conservation in the Wellington/Kapiti region, and it sits below Dracophyllum Knob (1117m).

Use is first come, first served—no bookings are required. Fees are free, but Te Araroa Trail walkers are expected to register and purchase the Te Araroa Trail Pass. The hut has two bunk beds (mattresses provided) and a pit latrine; water is untreated and drinking-water treatment is required. Nearby hut-to-hut options include Nichols Hut (about 3–4 hr), Te Matawai Hut (2–3 hr), and Arete Hut (2–3 hr).
