Eade Memorial Hut

Eade Memorial Hut is a basic three-bunk hut in Aoraki/Mount Cook National Park. It’s used for backcountry overnight stays by independent walkers and is first come, first served (no bookings required). The hut is owned and maintained by the South Canterbury branch of New Zealand Deerstalkers’ Association, and a recommended donation of $5 per person per night helps cover maintenance costs.

Sleeping is in three bunk beds, and the hut has a pit latrine. No fireplace is provided, and there is no drinking water inside the hut. A useful nearby reference point is Red Stag Hut, which is about a 1 hour walk away; the route involves a crossing of the Godley River that can be swift and discoloured, so avoid crossing if it’s flooded or you can’t find safe entry/exit points.
