Esquilant Bivvy Hut

Esquilant Bivvy Hut is a six-bunk backcountry hut in Mount Aspiring National Park, run for public use by the New Zealand Alpine Club, with the Department of Conservation as operator. It sits on a col above the Rees Valley, high in the Queenstown/Wakatipu area.

The hut is basic and provides mattresses for sleeping; no drinking water, no toilet facilities, and no fireplace are provided. Use is first come, first served with six bunk beds; basic/bivvies bookings aren’t required. A Backcountry Hut Pass or Backcountry Hut Tickets can’t be used at this hut, so plan on paying via the booking route for this hut if you’re booking ahead. The hut is in an avalanche-prone area where avalanches can cross the track, usually from May into November.
